Fresh cutflowers will dominate the province’s imports of ornamental plant products. These imported flowers are those which are not locally produced due to climatic conditions such as chrysanthemums, lilies, roses, anthuriums, stattice, gerberas, carnation and some varieties of gladiolas. Coming in close, will be other live plants, cuttings and slips which will also be used as planting materials or mother plants. Far in third rank are orchid seedlings. Flowers have seasonal demands
Exports (intra-national & international)
Capiz export of fresh foliages to Japan this year is expected to reach 16,000 metric tons which is valued at US$100,000.00. Presently, there are 5 kinds of cutfoliages exported to Japan. This figure is expected to triple within the next two years as growers continue to build up volume capacity and expand product lines. The industry is also exploring the possibility of penetrating other neighboring Asian markets such as North Korea, Hongkong and Taiwan.
Capiz cutfoliages are also being distributed regularly to some key areas in the country such as Metro Manila, Cebu and Iloilo. Average monthly shipment of florida beauty and Dracaena sanderiana to Metro Manila is 3,500 dozens while an aggregate of 1,000 dozens are sent to Cebu and Iloilo City.
Capiz will continue to be the major supplier of landscape material needs of the whole of Western Visayas.
